Another happy customer – we love to get these:
“Dear Clive and Cheryl
Just want to pass on a huge thank you for doing such a fantastic job with Johns poster and cut outs. They were a huge hit and everyone loved them.
I have attached a few photos.
Will be in touch. Many thanks again, Jean”
For this 21st we did some miniatures to go around the cake, a lifesize cutout 6 foot tall of John when he was a kid, plus a 6ft x 4ft synthetic poster which looks fantastic – even though the background is in Essendon colours!
One of our more interesting calls was from the production department at FremantleMedia Australia regarding making 3 lifesize cutouts for the TV show Australia’s Got Talent. Gotta say we couldn’t wipe the smiles off our faces, as these standups were going to be used on the show – so our product was going to be seen on TV, whooohooo!
We ended up making lifesize cutouts of Dannii Minogue, Kyle Sanderlands and Brian McFadden – well actually they were larger than life – Dannii was 6ft, Kyle was 7ft and Brian was 8ft high – they were huge. The cutouts were being used in one of the acts as props
“Clive exceeded all expectations in producing a stunning 8 ft standup for our parents’ 50th wedding anniversary. The original print was beautifully restored, and Clive went to extraordinary lengths to ensure production and safe delivery to Queensland in time for the celebration. Mum and Dad were overwhelmed! We had a “Construction” theme work a function that 3 of us could not attend, so we had a lifesize cutout done and sent to the function.
It went down a treat! The order process and delivery times were fantastic, and I was kept well informed of progress – thanks heaps Clive! Thumbs up recommendation

Cheryl was very kind to send us some photos of Peter’s 21st…
“Hope this isn’t too many. You can see it was a huge success. Thanks again for your help, as I said on Sunday everybody was amazed and had a lot of fun.
We had an inquiry from Iceland a couple of weeks ago – “My brother lives in Australia with his soon to be wife and kids. They will be getting married soon but I will not be able to attend. I would very much like to have a lifesize cardboard cutout made picturing me that could be propped up at the ceremony!”
Well Arni had this fantastic photo done of himself, sent it to us and we produced a 6ft 6in standup and had it delivered to the Gold Coast in time for the wedding.
His comments sent back to us after the wedding: I just wanted to let you guys know, the picture got there in time and was a huge success. You all made my day!
The other thing here is that Arni was put on to us by Morgan at www.designersalesigns.com based in Newcastle. He had made an inquiry on their web site. We appreciated their referral and contacted Morgan to tell her – she was very pleased that we took the time to thank her.
The lifesize standups are ideal for many uses. A common problem is trying to figure out what size will be needed so that the standup can be ordered correctly. We are happy for customers to send us a file first so we can point them in the right direction, but here is an easy way to calculate what you require, you just need the photo, a ruler, the approximate height of the subject and a calculator.
First of all here is an example of an original photo (1):
We don’t want a standup of the group of girls, we just want to have one made of the girl on the right, so we’ll just concentrate on that subject (2) – measure the height and the widest part of the subject:
Here’s our numbers (we’ll work in millimetres):
Height of girl – 5′ 8″ = 1700mm
Height in photo = 130mm
Width in photo = 42mm
We know the height we need (1700mm), we need to find out the width we need, so divide real height by photo height (1700 divide by 130 = 13.07) and multiply that by photo width (13.07 x 42) which is 549.
So our standup needs to be 1700 high by 549 wide,
which is a standard single.
What about a standup of a group or where a single person has a stance which is not upright, or where there’s arms sticking our etc? Easy, here’s an example of a couple (in this case we need to take the measured height from the top of the male head to the bottom of the female’s foot).
We know the height we need (1800mm), we need to find out the width we need, so divide real height by photo height (1800 divide by 185 = 9.07) and multiply that by photo width (9.07 x 80) which gives us 778.
So our standup needs to be 1800 high by 778 wide,410
which is a standard double (over 600mm but under 800mm wide).
The principals are exactly the same for measuring any standup whether mini, midi, normal and even table top.
Please note that all measurements are approximate and used for illustration purposes only.
Note: A single person in a cutout standup is not necessarily going to be a “standard” size. Because of their stance, for instance if they are dancing, leaning over, or kicking a ball, they will be taking up more width than a standard size. The same applies to a two person standup. Because of their stance they may easily take up the full printing width and be classified as “Extra Double” and not “Standard Double”
